The homepage FAQ stays practical and short. The full explanation of evidence intake, ranking logic, and validation lives in the public methodology guide.
What Troposphere is, where competition data comes from, and how it relates to existing platforms.
A glider pilot ranking that estimates pilot strength from validated competition results sourced through SoaringSpot. It is not a flight logbook or a points table. It is a statistical model that learns from repeated head-to-head evidence over time.
No. Troposphere is a complementary ranking layer built to estimate relative pilot strength from shared evidence. It is not meant to replace flight logging, scoring, route viewing, or community platforms.
Twice daily on a fixed schedule. Each refresh ingests current SoaringSpot competition results, recalculates rankings, and publishes a validated snapshot. The board shows the last publish time and next scheduled run.
How to interpret what you see on the ranking.
A conservative estimate of your skill level based on what the model is confident about. It reflects repeated performance against comparable opponents, not just your best single day. Pilots with fewer events or narrow opponent pools may be scored cautiously even if their results look strong.
The model does not yet have enough evidence for a stable rating. Proof comes from repeated event days, enough comparable opponents, and enough activity over time. Provisional pilots may still appear on the board but their position is less certain.
The public board is currently shown in competition-only mode while cross-country source handling is being rebuilt. Temporary profile tags are hidden until that work is complete.
The board keeps the best scored flight for each pilot on each scoring date. This prevents over-rewarding upload volume and keeps the ranking focused on repeated day-level performance.
The board updates twice daily on a fixed schedule, not after individual uploads. Even after an update, a single flight may not visibly move your score. The model learns from accumulated evidence, and one event among many rarely produces a large shift on its own.
